We grow two main crops of buckwheat here on the farm. Both are jointly planted with crimson clover for its nitrogen fixing properties and its bee nourishing bloom. Both plantings are mainly for the benefit of the bees, but we harvest what grain we can, when we can. There's nothing like freshly ground buckwheat pancakes!

After the spring crop is done, it gets mowed down with the mulching guard down on the mowing deck. I then run the rototiller over the entire patch set to a shallow depth to reseed any dropped grain. Everything gets put back into the soil.

Mid August is upon us and it's time that I get done and there's no time like the present. Not bad for an hour's work and I'm sure the girls will appreciate it.
